New Syrian newspaper inaugurated
Syria, Politics, 3/8/2004

Syria's Minister of Information Ahmad al-Hassan on Sunday inaugurated the headquarters of daily newspaper of "Al-Furat" in the eastern city of Deir Ez-zour. The daily is an affiliate to the Damascus-based Al-Thawra newspaper.

The inauguration was attended by Secretaries of Deir Ez-zour and Hasaka Branches of Al-Baath Arab Socialist Party, Governors of both Governorates, Chairman of the Syrian Journalists Union and a host of party and state and local officials.

The Minister delivered a speech in which he stressed President Bashar al-Assad's keen on developing and improving media performance and role in advancing the process of cultural, economic, political and social building.

The Minister also reviewed latest developments on the regional and international area and Syria's attitudes towards current issues.
