Jordan, Israel inaugurates an international center for research

A Jordanian source in Amman said that Jordan and Israel will draw the foundation stone for an international scientific center for research on their joint borders with the participation of officials from the two countries and representatives for two American universities.

The same source said that the celebration will be held in the site which was chosen for this center which is called " Bridging the rift center: in Wadi Araba ( south )" where Jordan and Israel had signed their peace agreement in 1994.

The two countries gave an area of land estimated at 76 hectares to build this center which is situated, 80 Km to the south of the Dead Sea. It is, however, expected that the center will be ready to receive Jordanian and Israeli students and from other countries in 2009.

The two American Universities of Cornell and Stanford will supervise the academic side of this center where a data base will be established on the area. The students are qualified to get the PH.D. degrees.

Meantime, a committee including the Jordanian opposition parties, especially the Islamic ones as well as anti- normalization opposition normalization trade union, issued a statement yesterday in which it warned against the risks to be resulted from this project against Jordan.
