Five worshippers were killed in an attack in front of a mosque; Sanaa denied assassination attempt on President's son
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 3/6/2004
An official Yemeni source yesterday denied news that commander of the Yemeni republican guard and the special unit, Col. Ahmad Ali Abdullah Saleh, was exposed to an assassination attempt and that he was taken to Jordan for medical treatment.
The source said that "all these allegations are lies and groundless and it stemmed from hostile sides being inside or outside the country aiming at damaging Yemen." New reports said that the elder son of the Yemeni President was exposed to an assassination attempt by an officer called Ali al-Murrani who fired 8 bullets at him and this resulted in heavy wounds after which he was taken to al-Hussein hospital in Amman for treatment.
Meantime, press sources in Amman announced the arrival of a special plane carrying the son of the Yemeni President who was admitted to al-Hussein military hospital which is situated inside an army camp and is strongly guarded.
On the other hand, the Yemeni Sabaa news agency said that five worshippers were killed and other 30 wounded when one citizen opened fire at the worshippers before the mosque in Itmah area in Zammar province, 100 Km to the south of Sanaa before he committed suicide.
The agency said that the security agencies started investigations on the incident.
