French company's contract for Casablanca sanitation, worth annual 12 mln euros
Morocco-France, Business, 3/2/2004
French group Suez, which won a contract for the management of waste and sanitation in Casablanca, said the 2nd largest contract it obtained, after Sao Paulo's, will yield an annual 12 million Euros annually, over 10 years.
Suez will, via its affiliate Sita, take care of waste collecting and sanitation in downtown Casablanca, host to offices of state administration and the largest enterprises.
This is the second contract won by Suez in Morocco, after being selected in 1997 to manage water and electricity in the Moroccan metropolis, via its affiliate "Lydec" in which it owns 64% of shares.
Sita has committed to invest 8 million Euros, the group's spokesman told French economic paper "La Tribune" which comments that the company will be working with reliable authorities in a country enjoying an adequate legal safety.
The publication also expects other Moroccan cities, starting with Marrakesh to conceded waste collecting and management to private companies.
