Lebanon accepts the nomination of the new American ambassador
Lebanon-USA, Politics, 2/26/2004

Well-informed American sources said that Lebanon notified the American government yesterday its written official consent on appointing the diplomat Jeffery Filtman as an ambassador for the US in Beirut.

The sources added that Filtman, currently in Iraq, will stay there until the White House will announce officially his appointment. Then preparation and co-ordination will start for him with the Senate to be presented by the senate's foreign relations committee which will consider its appointment and approve it after hearing his testimony.

The sources added the US Department Of State will accelerate this operation due to the Congress preoccupation in a year of election. Filtman who commands Arabic and French and served in Tunisia and Tel Aviv and enjoys good reputation will succeed ambassador Vincent Battle whose term of office in Lebanon will expire in Summer.
