Quake Death Climbs to 226, 120 wounded

Al-Barad'e: we support Libya's keeping of a civilian atomic capability
The director general of the International Agency for Atomic Energy Muhammad al-Barad'e said in Tripoli, yesterday that the agency will support Libya's request to keep a nuclear program for civil purposes after it will get rid off its military nuclear program, noting that he has agreed with the Libyan officials to "exert all possible efforts to end dismantling the Libyan weapons program by the fall of June.

British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw and Spain's Foreign Minister Ana Palacio Monday expressed denunciation of Israeli separation wall in the West Bank. In statements to reporters on arrival at the European Council headquarters on Monday to attend the meeting of the EU's public affairs and Foreign Relations Council, Straw said the EU believes that the separation wall is illegal especially that it exceeds the internationally-recognized borders and the green line that separates between the Palestinian territories and Israel. Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher described the Arab peace initiative adopted by Beirut Arab summit two years ago as the basis for any movement to reach just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East. Maher, in a joint news conference with his Lebanese counterpart Jean Obeid after a meeting that the Arab initiative should be part of international effort to bring peace to the region. Go

Copenhagen announced that its foreign minister Per Stig Moller will pay a visit to Syria and Israel starting today and continues until Friday in order to discuss with the two countries' officials the peace process in the region. Go

Thousands of al-Azhar University students demonstrated on Monday protesting against Israel's insistence on building the apartheid separation wall in the West Bank, demanding the international community, particularly the International Court of Justice to consider the issue of the wall. Go

A mass grave including remains of eight persons was found in one well in Marah al-Hbas town in west Sidon yesterday and presumed that the persons where killed since more than 22 years, the time of the Israeli occupation of south Lebanon in 1982. The remains include skulls, bones, garments and cloths in addition to a plastic gear similar to that used by Israel in detention center and the forces that collaborated with it in the 1980s. Go
