American bishop denounces Israel's apartheid wall
Palestine-USA, Politics, 2/24/2004

Bishop Clifton Kirkpatrick, Secretary of the Anglican Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A., denounced Israel's building of the apartheid separation wall in the West Bank, saying it diminishes prospects of peace in the region.

Kirkpatrick said in statements Monday in Beirut that he is calling George W. Bush's administration to stop its support to Israel, pointing out that the international resolutions should be implemented. The Bishop, currently visiting Lebanon, had already met Lebanese Minister of Information Michael Smaha, Patriarch Nassrullah Sfeir of the Maronites and Patriarch Aram I of the Armenian orthodox.

The American cleric refuted Tel Aviv's pretexts to justify building of the barrier in the West Bank, stressing that Israel has no right to occupy other people's land under the excuse of providing security. He said that his church is interested in the Middle East peace, indicating that part of its duty is to understand the problems suffered by the region's peoples and explain those problems to the American people to build a new work partnership that leads to peace and justice.

For his part, the Minister Smaha said the Israeli fanaticism constitutes the most important ally to terrorism, pointing out that the American Anglican Presbyterian Church seeks to differentiate between the proper Christianity and Zionist Christianity, and adopts important stances for the Arab legitimate issues in this region. The Minister expressed his Ministry's readiness to cooperate with the Anglican Presbyterian Church.
