Cadiz province chief apologizes for presenting truncated Morocco map
Morocco-Spain, Politics, 2/20/2004
President of the Cadiz province council (southern Spain), Francesco Gonzalez Cabanillas, who is leading a Spanish delegation to a meeting of bilateral cooperation with Morocco, apologized Wednesday for having presented a map of Morocco amputated of its southern provinces.
Cabanillas said it was "unintentional and due to technical factors and to an error by people in charge of preparing the documentation, who used old maps."
The Cadiz official underlined "Spain's respect to Morocco, its territorial unity and national identity," and reaffirmed the Spanish delegation's "attachment to build solid relations with all Moroccan regions."
Apologies came after members of the Moroccan delegation, elected representatives and journalists, protested the display of incomplete maps and demanded "official apology to all Moroccans, the recognition of the error and correction of the map data."
