Sudan renews its support to Morocco's territorial integrity
Sudan-Morocco, Politics, 2/20/2004

Sudan renewed this Thursday its support to Morocco in the Sahara issue and is looking forward to Morocco resuming its seat within the African Union, formerly known as the Organization of African Unity (OAU).

The statement was made recently in Khartoum during a meeting between Morocco's minister in charge of relations with the parliament, Saad El Alami, and Sudanese officials.

Morocco walked out of the OAU in 1984 to protest the illegal admission of the Sahrawi republic, self-proclaimed by the Algeria-backed Polisario that claims the independence of the Sahara, a former Spanish colony retrieved by Morocco in 1975 under the Madrid Accord with Spain and Mauritania.

The Sudanese authorities have also lauded the political and social reforms conducted in the Kingdom and hoped to benefit from Morocco's experience in equipment, tourism, sea fisheries and animal resources.

For Morocco, said El Alami, peace establishment in Sudan will enable this Arab state to devote its efforts to the development battle and make full benefit of its assets.

The two states have also stressed the need to promote their economic and trade cooperation and speed up the creation of a joint business council.

The Moroccan official who took part in Khartoum in the 13th session of the Arab cities organization, met Sudanese president, Omar Hassan Al Bashir, and several other Sudanese officials.
