Al-Baz calls for reviving peace talks on the Syrian track
Egypt-Syria, Politics, 2/19/2004
Egypt on Wednesday called for reviving the peace process on the Syrian and Lebanese tracks, saying Syria has expressed readiness for the resumption of the process on the basis of the UN resolutions 242 and 338 and the land-for-peace principle.
Osama al-Baz, the Political Advisor to the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak who is on an official visit to the UAE, told reporters that there is need to implement the roadmap plan between the Palestinians and Israelis, and find a mechanism to check the implementation, as well as putting pressure on Israel to stop building the apartheid separation wall in the occupied Palestinian lands.
Al-Baz added that President Mubarak's talks with the senior officials in the UAE centered on several topics, including the importance of good preparations for the next Arab summit due in March in Tunisia. On Iraq, the senior Egyptian officials emphasized necessity of forming an Arab united stance towards the situations in that country, pointing out that contacts have been made between several Arab states and Iraq circles concerned to know how Arabs can help the Iraqis restore sovereignty, security and stability.
