Syrian official source sees closure of British embassy in damascus as unnecessary measure
Syria-UK, Politics, 2/19/2004

An official source at the Syrian Foreign Ministry said that the closure of part of the offices of the British Embassy in Damascus is due to security considerations assessed by the British authorities.

"The Syrian authorities concerned see that this British measure is unnecessary, particularly in light of the Syrian Foreign Ministry's repose to all logical and reasonable demands that ensure the security of the embassy and its staff," the source added.

The source added that the Syrian Foreign Ministry stresses that security of all accredited embassies, diplomatic missions and consulates in our country is totally ensured, and Syria is a stable and safe country and there is no need to take exceptional security precautions.

"We express our regret over this measure, hoping that the British authorities reconsider it, unless there are other motives behind such procedures and announcements."
