Syrian- Iranian joint committee final statements

Syrian Premier Muhammad Naji Otari on Tuesday stressed that viewpoints between Syria and Iran were identical on the necessity of achieving a just and comprehensive peace in the region according to "Madrid conference", Land-for-peace principle and UN related resolutions that call on Israel to withdraw from Arab occupied territories to the line of June 4th, 1967.
Following the conclusion of the Syrian - Iranian Joint Higher Committee's meetings chaired by Premier Muhammad Naji Otari and the first Vice - President Of Iran Muhammad Reza Aref in Damascus, Otari said that both sides condemned the accusations and threats Syria and Iran are exposed to due to their national stances.
"I express pleasure over what has been accomplished during the meetings, the outcomes were very positive in the economic, commercial, technical, business and cultural domains," Otari added.
He called for finding a just and quick solution for the Iraqi question that ends the occupation and enables the Iraqis to hold sovereignty and elect democratic system which preserves territorial integrity.
" Syria and Iran, under the leadership of Presidents Bashar al-Assad and Muhammad Khatami, stressed, in several occasions, their commitment to strengthen their ties and to continue joint act that contributes to the enhancement of cooperation relations among Arab and Islamic countries," he said.
Aref, for his part, expressed support to the premier's speech referring to the importance of the joint act to continue enhancing and developing the bilateral relations between the two countries.
Later in the day, Otari and Aref signed on the joint minutes of the meetings. Memos of understanding in the fields of industry, construction, oil and mineral resources, communications, technology, tourism were also signed by the two delegations' ministers.
