Tunisia wins over Morocco for African Biggest Football Trophy
Tunisia-Morocco, Sports, 2/16/2004
Morocco's dreams to capture the 2004 African nations cup came to a halt this Saturday after a defeat against Tunisia (2-1) in the first exclusively Maghreban Derby at the CAN cup.
Tunisia took the advantage after just five minutes after Dos Santos scored a goal after just five minutes, his fourth goal of the tournament. But Youssef Mokhtari headed the equalizer seven minutes before the break to also register his fourth goal of the competition.
In the 57th minutes, Morocco's goal keeper Fouhami makes a terrible mistake allowing Ziad Jaziri to put the hosts ahead. The goalkeeper slips as he tries to control Clayton's cross and Jaziri latches on to the loose ball for a simple stroke home.
To qualify for the final, Tunisia led group A, winning Rwanda and Congo DR, drew with Guinea. In the quarter final, the host edged out the hard fighting Senegal by a lone goal in an ill-tempered encounter. That was followed with a 5-3 (shootout) victory over one of the pre-tournament favourites, Nigeria.
