RAM airliner to set up charter company
Morocco, Business, 2/14/2004

The Moroccan airliner "Royal Air Maroc" (RAM) has decided to set up a subsidiary company called "RAM Bis" specialized in charter flights, as part of what RAM Director general Mohamed Berrada, described as a "strategy to follow up the deep changes" in the international air traffic.

With a fleet of three planes, the new subsidiary company will start operating flights, next June, between some European cities and ancient Moroccan cities such as Fez and Marrakech.

The announcement came at a round table held in Casablanca on Thursday on the occasion of the 4th Convention on Tourism in Morocco, during which, Moroccan Transports and Equipment Minister Karim Ghalleb laid emphasis on the liberalization of the air transport as part of the open sky policy adopted by the Kingdom and the restructuring of the state-owned company RAM.

Morocco ambitions to attract 10 millions tourists by 2010.

In a message addressed to this annual gathering, King Mohammed VI, the king called the national carrier, "Royal Air Maroc," following the completion of the sky map that will lead to the air transport liberalization, "to make the necessary adjustment so that, in addition to the traditional services offered, it can run low-cost and charter flights on a competitive basis," insisting that "safety and security must, at all times and in all circumstances, remain the top priority for carriers operating in Morocco as well as for the relevant authorities in this country."
