Red Cross to visit Saddam Hussein very soon

The International Committee of the Red Cross ICRC announced yesterday it had visited several Aides of the former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein in prison, and expressed confidence that the American occupation forces will permit seeing Saddam Hussein "in the very near future."

The spokeswoman for the ICRC, Nada Doumani, said that "he is a war prisoner and it is presumed he will be like any war prisoner." She added the ICRC visited most of the 43 high ranking Iraqis held by the occupation forces. Doumani added "we faced no problems in reaching other persons." As for Saddam she said " I think we will be able to see him in the near future."

Doumani explained "the Americans say that ( Saddam) is existed in Iraq.. but we can not confirm that or deny it."

Doumani called for Saddam to be tried according to "judicial guarantees and the freedom of defending ( of convicted persons) in neutrality and transparency."
