Syrian Cypriot communications agreement signed

Syria's Transport Minister Makram Obeid and Cypriot Minister of Communications Kikis Kazamias on Thursday signed a cooperation agreement in the field of marine transport which allows a non-restricted entrance for the ships of the two countries into both ports.

The agreement provides for eliminating any obstacles that might hinder the increase of the marine trade between both countries, and for encouraging the owners of the ships to cooperate between their ports.

The agreement also offers the right of establishing representatives and appointed agents companies in the two countries and taking the necessary facilities for the entrance and loading of the ships.

Later, Obeid said in a speech that this agreement is very important for developing the economic ties and increasing the trade exchange and the number of tourists.

The Cypriot minister, for his part, stressed the deep rooted ties between Syria and Cyprus and the necessity for enhancing them in all field and to make use of the strategic site of the two countries as gates to Europe and Eastern countries.
