London: Venue of meeting between al-Qathafi and Blair is undecided
Libya-UK, Politics, 2/12/2004

The British foreign office said yesterday that the country which will host the first meeting between the Libyan Leader of the Revolution Colonel Muammar al Qathafi and the British prime minister Tony Blair is not decided yet.

The spokeswoman for the British foreign office said hours after the meeting between the British foreign office secretary Jack Straw and his Libyan counterpart Abdul Rahman Shalqam that the officials discussed the possibility of Blair's visit to Libya. She added "we hope the visit to be organized as soon as possible, but no date is set so far."

Straw had stressed in a joint press conference with Shalqam that al-Qathafi's visit to London is not impossible. Shalqam met with the British prime minister earlier and handed him a message from al-Qathafi. He said that Libya's relations with Washington and London were the essence of the talks.

Shalqam stressed that what is taking place of measures in Libya at the meantime within the course of getting rid off the weapons of mass destruction is not an inspection, rather to make sure about what Libya had voluntarily disclosed. Shalqam said that his country did not produce nuclear weapons, though it had the means for that, but chose not to develop these weapons.
