Yediot Ahronot: King Abdullah receives Peres

The Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot quoted the Jordanian king Abdullah as saying yesterday during his meeting with the leader of the Israeli Labor Party Shimon Peres in Amman that there is "a change in Syria."
The paper said that the King inspires his optimism from the talks held between him and the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus on Monday after the had inaugurated al-Wahda dam on the borders between the two states. Peres said that al-Assad has to pursue the policy of King Hussein and that of the former Egyptian President Anwar al-Sadat and not to hide.
He said that " peace in not a shame, and if al-Assad wants peace let him come to Jerusalem or invite the Israeli prime minister to Damascus."
The Jordanian News agency ( Petra) quoted the King as saying that " there is no way for the stability of the region and its security except through the establishment of just peace provides for Israel's withdrawal from the Palestinian territories and the foundation of an independent Palestinian state living side by side beside Israel."
During the meeting also discussed means of reviving the peace process and support for the debated peaceful to end the state of the Arab- Israeli conflict.
Yediot Ahronot said that Peres presented to the king his plan which can be put in " incentives rather than pressures" to give the peace process a push forward. Peres's plan states to include Palestine and Jordan to the European Union after signing a peace agreement and to joint a regional charter calling for rejecting terrorism.
