Algeria-Saudi Arabia, Politics, 2/5/2004
Press sources in Algeria said that the Algerian foreign ministry summoned the Saudi Ambassador in Algeria asking for explanations to "the appearance " of Abbas Madani, the chairman of the banned Islamic front for salvation in "an official reception attended by the Saudi King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz.
The Algerian independent daily al-Khabar quoted sources at the Algerian foreign ministry as saying that the ministry summoned the "ambassador to ask him over the appearance of the Algerian figure in the reception which was attended by heads of pilgrims missions of the Islamic states and their ambassador accredited in the kingdom.
The source said that the Algerian foreign ministry was not pleased over "placing Abbasi with the princes in an official setting to which were invited some 200 public figures."
The paper indicated that Abbasi Madani appeared in the line where the Saudi King was sitting rather in the opposite line which were dedicated to guests and in a seat near to that of the Saudi minister of the interior Prince Nayef.
