Washington, Tripoli will discuss normalization of relations
Libya-USA, Politics, 2/4/2004

The US Department Of State announced yesterday that the US and Libya will start talks on normalizating their relations ,as this will be a sort of "reward" to Tripoli following measures it had taken in order to abide by its commitment to give up weapons of mass destruction programs.

The spokesman for the department, Richard Boucher, said that the US under secretary of state in charge of the Middle East affairs, Richard Burns, will head to London to meet with British and Libyan officials on Friday.

Boucher said these are "a result of positive steps carried out by Libya to dismantle all elements of programs on WMD." He added "as the Libyan government has taken all these basic measures and proves seriousness, it will be rewarded for its good intention."

"It's appropriate to have a political dialogue on what lies ahead. The situation with Libya has fundamentally changed," Boucher had said.
