Lebanon returns back to Iraq millions of frozen dollars
Lebanon-Iraq, Economics, 2/2/2004

Member of the Iraqi Governing Council, Muwafak al-Rube, said that Lebanon will give back a sum of 500 million dollars of the money deposited by the former regime in Iraq in the Lebanese banks before the invasion.

Al-Rube said after a meeting with the Lebanese prime minister Rafic Hariri that a technical delegation including the finance minister and the governor of the Central Bank will visit Lebanon to get this money.

Washington accuses Syria of being slow in searching for the Iraqi money in its banks. But al-Rube said last week that Syria vowed to return back the Iraqi money immediately after the agreement of the two sides on its amount. While Iraqi officials estimated these money at 3 billion dollars, President Bashar al-Assad recently asserted that this is sum is only 200 million.
