Extension of UNIFIL mission in south Lebanon

The UN Security Council in New York yesterday unanimously extended for other 6 months expire on July 31st, the mission of the UN Interim forces working in South Lebanon UNIFIL.

A statement by the council read that it share with the UN secretary general its concern over the " tension and the possibility of escalation " in the region.

The resolution encourages the Lebanese government to extend its authorities in the south and to do all its best to ensure a calm atmosphere." The resolution denounces all "sorts of violence and expresses great concern over the continued land, sea and air violations of the withdrawal line ( the blue line) and urged sides concerned to put an end to these violations and to abstain from acts or provocations that are conducive to escalations."

The resolution expresses support for UNIFIL efforts to ensure cease fire along the withdrawal line.
