Resistance vow continued confrontation; al-Aqsa group claims Jerusalem operation
Palestine-Israel, Military, 1/30/2004

Factions of al-Aqsa group claimed responsibilities for the Jerusalem operation yesterday morning which resulted in killing 10 Israelis at least as well as wounding other 50, 10 of them in critical condition.

Palestinian sources said that the executor of the operation who was killed during the operation is Ali Munir Jaara from Aida camp, in Bethlehem area, and belongs to al-Aqsa group of the Fatah movement. Jaara left a message in which he said that the operation came as a retaliation to "Sharon's massacres in Gaza which resulted in killing 13 Palestinians."

The Palestinian prime minister Ahmad Qrei and the Palestinian authority condemned the operation which took place near the headquarters of the Israeli prime minister, in the downtown of Jerusalem, stressing the need of intensifying international efforts to break the cycle of violence in the region, and to give the ME peace process a push forward.

Meantime, the Palestinian minister of negotiations affairs Saeb Oreikat renewed in a press statement the PA rejection to targeting the Palestinian and Israeli civilians, stressing that the Israeli massacre in Gaza on Wednesday and the Palestinian operation in Jerusalem on Thursday make it imperative to intensify international and American efforts to break the cycle of violence and end of the occupation and pushing peace forward.

The secretary of Fatah in the West Bank, Hussein al-Sheikh, said that "the criminal series " of the occupation forces constitutes a fertile land for the resistance operations, noting in a statement the Gaza massacre and the continued operations of demolishing and continued building the wall of separation.

Gaza massacre and Jerusalem operation coincided with the visit by the Egyptian and American delegations to Ramullah in order to revive the Roadmap project. The two delegates of the US Department Of State David Satterfield and John Wolf were meeting with the Israeli defense minister Shaoul Mofaz when the Jerusalem operation took place.

The two American delegates also met with the Palestinian prime minister on Wednesday and Qrei described the talks as "useful and deep." He welcomed Washington's involvement, once again in the peace process. He explained he had asked Wolf for help in preparation for a meeting conducive to positive results between him and Sharon.
