Independent: invasion of Iraq lacked humanitarian and logical justification
Iraq-USA, Politics, 1/28/2004
The British Independent daily stressed Tuesday that the Anglo-American invasion of Iraq lacked human and logical justification. The daily cited a report by the Human Rights Watch organization that the failure to find weapons of mass destruction(WMD) in Iraq would push the U.S. President George Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair to hide behind humanitarian reasons.
The report asserted that the occupation of Iraq had put human rights principles at the bottom of the agenda in terms of priorities.
The paper also quoted the Executive Manager of the Human Rights Watch as saying that Bush's and Blair's allegations on Iraq's WMD and the link between the ex-regime and international terrorism have turned out to be baseless.
The Independent cited a statement by David Kay, the resigned Chief of the committee in charge of inspection of WMD in Iraq, in which he denied there were any such weapons in the country.
