Lebanon-Israel, Politics, 1/28/2004

Tel Aviv has published a list in the name of the prisoners who will be released in a prisoners exchange deal with the Lebanese Hizbullah, after the Israeli soldiers started to collect the remains of the Lebanese fighters in order to hand them to the party in the framework of the deal.

The list was published at an internet site for the Israeli prisoners department in order to enable persons who oppose releasing the prisoners to file complaints to the supreme Israeli court.

In addition Hizbullah asked for making sure that the Palestinians who will be released do not include convicted persons in criminal cases, as the party persisted that the released will be from "al-Intifada related activists."

The list including the release of 371 Palestinian prisoners and 60 administrative detainees without trial, 30 Lebanese and prisoners from other Arab nationalities and one German citizen. On the other hand, Hizbullah is to release one Israeli businessman and hand over the remains of three Israeli soldiers.

Among the prominent names in the Lebanese list are Sheikh Mustafa al-Deirani and Sheikh Abdul karim Obeid who were kidnapped in 1994 and 1989 respectively.

Al-Deirrani filed a case before the military court in Tel Aviv demanding for 6 million Shekel ( USD 1.3 million) to compensate him for the torture he was exposed to during investigation with him.

Within the framework of preparations to complete the deal, teams of the Israeli military Rabbis, with the participation of German government's representatives, collected the remains of some 59 Lebanese resistance men from the cemetery of numbers dedicated for "Israel's foes" to arrange their tombs before transporting them to the border with Lebanon next Friday.

The first part of the agreement which was finalized at a German agreement will be implemented on Thursday, according to Israel and Hizbullah.

Well-informed sources said that the second phase also includes negotiations to release Muhammad Hammadi who has been jailed in Germany since 1986. His brother Abbas was release for two German hostages by the end of the 1980s.

Committees were informed by sides concerned to discuss the fate of Israeli pilot Arad and the Iranian diplomats who disappeared in Lebanon in 1982.
