Occupation forces vow to protect UN mission; Three American soldiers killed in an explosion to the west of Baghdad

The American occupation forces said that three US soldiers were killed in an explosion which shook al-Khaledyeah area to the west of Baghdad. The explosion which targeted an American military vehicle also resulted in wounding three Iraqi civilians.

News reports in al-Ramadi said that an explosive went off in the car in the highway which passes through al-Khaledyeah on Tuesday. The reports added the American helicopters evacuated the wounded immediately while the occupation soldiers cordoned the site of the attack and held ten civilians who were in the area.

The three Iraqis were wounded when their car was exposed to great damage as a result of the explosion which led also to the burning of two other cars.

Meantime, the commander of the American forces in al-Najaf, Richard Wilson, removed member of the municipal council in the city because of an article written by the latter in one of the local magazines, describing the occupation forces of provoking for violence.

In a later development, al-Sharif al-Haidary platform in al-Najaf announced on Monday evening following differences between al-Mahdi army for Muqtada al-Sader and Bader organization of the "higher council for the Islamic revolution" over the legal court which al-Sader wanted to open inside al-Haram.

News reports in al-Najaf said that al-Sader called last Friday for opening a Legal court at the tomb of Imam Ali, but the parties there rejected this step being a violation to the ministry of justice there. After the escalation of the crisis, al-Najaf acting governor Ali Atshan ordered the closure of al-Haram and all its offices.

Meantime, the occupation authorities vowed the ensure security protection demanded by the UN secretary general when he had announced his consent to dispatch a mission to Iraq to discuss the possibility of making elections to choose an Iraqi government by the end of June 2004.

Annan said in Paris "When I become convinced that the provisional coalition authorities ensured appropriate security arrangements, then I will send the UN mission, in response to the requests we have received from the American administrator of Iraq, Paul Bremer, and the transitional chairman of the Interim governing council Adnan al-Baja Jee."
