Moroccan king and UAE president resolved to intensify bilateral ties
United Arab Emirates-Morocco, Politics, 1/27/2004
Mrocco's King Mohammed VI, who paid this January 21-25 a friendship and working visit to the United Arab Emirates, and UAE president, Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, have issued instructions for the development of bilateral ties in the service of the two states' interests.
At the economic level, the Moroccan monarch and the UAE president pleaded for speeding up the implementation of the bilateral free-trade agreement and incited economic institutions to draw benefit from mutual business opportunities.
Regarding the situation in the Middle East, King Mohammed VI and Sheikh Zayed called for activating Arab solidarity in order to enable the Arab states to take on the challenges, mainly by developing mechanisms of Arab joint action according to a rational approach that transcends negative aspects of the existing structures and keeps abreast with ongoing mutations in the world.
The Moroccan and UAE heads of state further renewed total support to the Palestinian people and its national authority and to the Roadmap, calling for the resumption of negotiations and for Israel to withdraw from the Arab territories occupied since 1967, including the Golan heights and the Lebanese territories.
Of Iraq, the two leaders stressed the need to preserve the Arab state's unity and to join efforts in order to fulfil the Iraqi people's aspirations to security and stability and to rebuild the country. They expressed satisfaction over signs that the Iraqi people are regaining control of their destiny and said they support a central role for the United Nations Organization in the country's stabilization and reconstruction.
Crown prince of Dubai and UAE defence minister, Sheikh Bin Rached Al Maktoum, said the king's visit to the UAE has a great impact on bilateral ties and reflects the excellence of Morocco-UAE relations.
The UAE official who was guest to a program of the Moroccan TV channel (TVM) praised Morocco's good investment environment and said businessmen from his country voiced readiness to bring to Morocco all the needed help for the creation of a duty-free zone. He, however, stressed that red tape and complicated laws are the main obstacles of investments in the Arab states.
He also deplored the lack of solidarity in the Arab states as an impediment to the creation of an Arab market, explaining that the Arab states possess human and financial resources and a large market.
In addition to his talks with the UAE president, the sovereign met with crown prince of Abu Dhabi and chief of staff of the Armed Forces, Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed and visited the Dubai port and the free zone of Jabal Ali.
