UNRAW: Israel demolished 14852 houses in Gaza
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 1/27/2004
The commissioner general of the Palestinian Refugees Work Relief Agency UNRWA, Peter Hansen, criticized yesterday that the policy of demolishing houses of the Palestinians pursued by Israel, stressing that the current situation in the Palestinian territories will be conducive to more "destruction and damages."
In a statement in Gaza yesterday, Hansen said "the continued current situation and the current policies ( in the Palestinian territories ) will be conducive to more acts of destruction, and killing" calling on all sides to "seek once again finding a solution because there are common interests among all sides to stop the continued bloodshed." Hansen criticized Israel over its continued operations to demolish houses of the Palestinians.
Hansen stressed that UNRWA "suffers now a deficit of 30 million dollars in order to rebuild these houses demolished by the Israeli army, especially in Rafah and Khan Younis camps, to the south of Gaza," noting that "only in January 2004 some 92 Palestinian houses were destroyed in Rafah, which means that destruction continues and also the deficit."
He unveiled a statistics prepared by UNRWA about houses destroyed by the Israeli army in the camp of Gaza for the Palestinian refugees whose number tolled 14852 houses.
