French army general for leading UNIFIL in South Lebanon

A spokesman for the UN said yesterday that the UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan, decided to appoint a French military man, Gen. Allen Billgreni, as a commander for the UN Interim Forces Working in South Lebanon UNIFIL.
The French officer succeeds the Indian General Lalit Mohan Tewari in this post. A French spokesman said that French army officer who is currently an advisor for the French army chief of staff for Africa and the Middle East affairs will assume his mission on February 17.
