Human rights Watch: Iraq's war was not a humanitarian intervention
Iraq-USA, Politics, 1/27/2004
The Human Rights Watch said that it is a mistake to describe the invasion launched by the US and Britain against Iraq in March as a humanitarian interference.
The group's executive director Kenneth Roth said on Sunday in its annual report that "neither President George Bush nor the British prime minister Tony Blair can justify the war against Iraq as a humanitarian intervention."
In an editorial, Roth stressed within the report that "the crimes committed by Saddam Hussein's regime should be punished, but should not be dealt with after it was ignored in the past." He added that interference should be made to halt a nearby or current crime.
