Morocco-Regional, People, 1/26/2004
It seems that heavy losses at the Arab cultural scene have been greatly increased with the loss of one of its most prominent figures. Just recently the renowned Moroccan writer Muhammad Shukri died and on Saturday, January 24.
Abdul Rahman Munif died but left behind a precious stone embodied in his five- part Mudun al- Milh ( Cities of the Salt ); his three part narrative Ard al-Sawad ( (the land of the black), in addition to his other famous narrative works including his first narrative work "the trees and the assassination of Marzouq," issued in 1973. His other narrative works are "A Majusi Love story;" "the East Mediterranean; " "when we had left the Bridge;" "the finals," "and the race of long distances. "
Generally speaking, Abdul Rahman Munif's narratives depict the catastrophic changes on the Arab homeland. In his "ities of the salt," he precisely monitored the changes from the Bedouins of the desert life to the oil rich cities. In The land of the Black ( Ard al-Sawad) he inspected in depth what had taken place and continues to be in the Iraq's Mesopotamia which is rich in its unmatched human civilization..
Abdul Rahman Munif was born in 1933 for an Iraqi mother and a father from Saudi Arabia.
