King Mohammed vsits Jabal Ali Port in Dubai
United Arab Emirates-Morocco, Economics, 1/24/2004

Morocco's King Mohammed VI on his visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), visited Friday the port and the free zone of Jabal Ali in Dubai.

The king, who arrived Monday to the UAE after a week-long visit to Egypt, was welcomed at the port by Sultan Ahmad Bin Sulayem, executive chairman of the port, and other officials.

Subsequently, the sovereign heard explanations and data about the different phases of the port's construction, development and management.

Sixty-eight percent of the overall volume of UAE's trade exchange goes through Jabal Ali port which welcomes 5.2 million containers annually and employs nearly 4,000 people.

The port, built in 1979, is the most important in the UAE and the whole Gulf region.

The free zone was set up in the port in 1985 to bring investments and foreign capital. Some 2,800 UAE and international companies, exempted from taxes for 15 years, are located in the port.
