Keftaro confers with Izmir counterpart
Syria-Turkey, Politics, 1/21/2004

Syria's Grand Mufti Sheikh Ahmad Keftaro received in Damascus Tuesday Mufti of Turkish City of Izmir, Necdet Itchel.

Keftaro talked about the importance of solidarity, integration and coordination on all levels and in all domains to achieve the "two friendly people's interests and to boost the ability to confront challenges."

The two sides praised President Bashar al-Assad's historical visit to Turkey and the outcomes of the visit during which many agreements of mutual cooperation and coordination between the two friendly countries were signed.

The two sides also stressed the necessity for cooperation and exchanging expertise in the domain of religious mission.

They denounced the accusations directed to Islam, stressing that Islam is the religion of justice and peace.

The delegation praised the religious coexistence in the Syrian community and thanked the Syrian government and the president for boosting the bilateral relations with Turkey.
