Bashir discusses with Mubarak Sudan's peace developments

Egypt's minister of information Safwat al-Sharif said that the Egyptian - Sudanese summit which was held yesterday discussed results attained in the operation of achieving peace in Sudan.

Al-Sharif added that the summit also dealt with Arab conditions and the situation in the Middle East and current contacts to this effect, in addition to the Iraqi issue as well as coordination concerning the African continent.

The Sudanese foreign minister Mustafa Othamn Ismael had explained before the beginning of the summit that Mubarak and al-Bashir will discuss developments if current negotiations, and Egypt's pivotal role in the peace process, and supporting Sudan "in its construction and preserving its unity." The Sudanese president added that he will brief his Egyptian counterpart on what was completed and pending issues "and also the conditions in the region."

The Sudanese President concluded a short visit to Egypt that lasted for several hours following talks with President Hosni Mubarak during which they agreed to enhance mechanism of integration between the two states.

The visit of the Sudanese President to Egypt comes at a time when talks between the two Sudanese negotiating delegations are witnessing differences that obstruct the two sides reaching a final peace agreement that puts and end to the conflict continuous since two decades.

In this respect, the rebels of southern Sudan, who are negotiating with the government to put an end to the civil war there, said that a final peace agreement can not be reached before solving the difference concerning the situation of the three areas under disputes.

The spokesman for the southern rebels, Yasser Araman, said that the talks concerning the three areas is continuous and that a solution should be reached. He ruled out any final peace agreement unless an agreement is reached concerning the three area. He expressed his conviction that the differences over these areas can be settled.

The Sudanese president said that the peace talks hosted by Kenya is not involved with settling the situation of the three areas of Jibal al-Nouba, Southern Nile and Eibi.
