Al-Assad discusses with Qatar's FM ME developments
Syria-Qatar, Politics, 1/19/2004
Syria's President Bashar al-Assad held on Saturday in Damascus talks with Qatar's foreign minister Sheikh Hamad Bin Jasem Bin Jaber al-Thani centered on developments of conditions in the Middle east.
The Syrian official news agency SANA said that the discussions between the Syrian President and the Qatari minister also falls in the course of continued consultations and coordination between the two states towards issues of mutual concern.
SANA also explained that minister al-Thani conveyed a verbal message from the Amir of Qatar Shaikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani relating to bilateral relations between the two states.
Qatar's foreign minister arrived in Damascus on Friday evening in a visit which was not declared earlier.
Worthy mentioning that Syrians refused this week an invitation extended by the Israeli President to visit Jerusalem in order to resume peace negotiations resumed between the two sides since more than 3 years.
In December 2003, the Syrian president called for the resumption of talks with Israel concerning the Syrian occupied Golan heights. Syria demands full restoration of the Golan heights occupied by Israel in 1967 and annexed by it 14 years later.
