Four Israelis were killed in a Palestinian operation; Hamas vows to escalate resistance
Palestine-Israel, Military, 1/15/2004

The Palestinian Islamic resistance movement, Hamas, vowed to escalate resistance against the Israeli occupation after Beit Hanoun operation in Gaza which was carried out by a Palestinian woman belongs to Ezz Eddine al-Qassam group and resulted in killing four Israeli soldiers and other 10 were wounded.

The founder of the movement, Sheikh Ahmad Yassin, held the Israeli occupation responsible for the operation. He stressed that resistance against the enemy is continuous as far as there is occupation on the Palestinian territories.

The Palestinian authority also held the Israeli government responsible for the operation because of continuing the building of the separation wall, the siege and the policy of escalation. The advisor of the Palestinian president, Nabil Abu Rudinah, called on the Quartet and the UN security Council to interfere and halt the Israeli aggression.

For his part, the Palestinian prime minister, Ahmad Qrei, said that the Israeli military campaign does not help to achieve calm, calling for reciprocated ceasefire.

The operation which took place yesterday morning at Erez crossing was claimed by al-Qassam group, and groups of the al-Aqsa group of the Fatah movement in a joint statement.

The statement said that the executor of the operation is called, Reem Saleh al-Reishi ( 21 year old). She is from Gaza and a mother for children: a 3.5 year old boy and one and a half years daughter.

Reem recorded her will on a video tape saying that she seeks to die for the sake of her land since her early years in study.

Meantime, one Palestinian woman was hit by the Israeli occupation soldiers during confrontation in Beit Jin village, to the east of Nablus. Medical sources said that the woman was wounded while she was praying inside her house.

The occupation forces detained 11 Palestinians in Ramullah and Doura town, near Hebron on Tuesday. This was following the killing of one Israel settler and wounding others in an attack that targeted their car near Aboud village to the northern west of Ramullah on Tuesday. Al-Aqsa group claimed responsibility for the attack.

In retaliation to Beit Hanoun operation, Israeli officials renewed their call to expel the Palestinian President Yasser Arafat. Member of the Israeli Knesset, Ehud Yatoum, from the Likud Party called for expelling, Yasser Arafat, and all members if the Palestinian leadership who returned back with him from Tunisia.

On the other hand, an Israeli military court accused one Israeli soldier of opening fire deliberately at a British peace activist who was visiting a camp for the Palestinian refugees in Rafah to the south of Gaza in April 2003. Disclosing this accusation came after hours from announcing the death of the British activist Tony Harindal because of wounds in his head that put him in a coma that lasted for 9 months.
