Damascus's pioneering prospects symposium
Syria, Local, 1/14/2004

Syria's First Lady Asmaa al-Assad on Tuesday attended the symposium of "Pioneering Prospects" organized by the Syrian Young Entrepreneurs Association ( SYEA ) at Damascus Omayad Conference Palace. It was attended by several cabinet ministers along with Arab and foreign ambassadors accredited in Damascus and a host of businessmen from Arab and foreign countries.

The Damascus-based SYEA, officially opened yesterday is a non-government, not-profit, non-political establishment. It was founded in August 2002 to encourage the youth to establish businesses of their own, and help them create new jobs so that they can contribute in pushing economic growth, and participate in a wider process of reforms.

Chairman of SYEA's board, Yasser Nassri, highlighted in his speech the role of the young generation in the present and future and their responsibility in making a future that faces up to challenges and turn them into opportunities.

He added that this could be done by activating the pioneering mental power of the youths, and encourage them to show interest in their future as well as the future of their country.

Nassri also indicated significance of the youths participation in the process of development and modernization led by President al-Assad, taking into consideration that the youth represent the majority of the society, and are able to face challenges and have the way to meet the need of the forthcoming stage such as the requirements of the Syrian-European partnership.
