A Yemeni people's non-governmental committee urged the participants in the democracy and human rights conference, currently held in Sanaa, to help in the release of Sheikh Muhammad al-Mu'yad, who is detained in the USA with his escort on charge of links to al-Qaida organizations.
The statement which was issued on Monday, under the title of "Appeal," said that the people's committee in solidarity with the Yemeni citizen, Sheikh al-Mu'ayad, and his escort, Muhammad Mohsin Yahya Zayed, urges the conference to maintain solidarity with them and demand their immediate release.
The statement also urged the international organizations in charge of human rights and freedom, participating in the conference, to provide solidarity with Sheikh al-Mu'ayad.
Yemeni officials said that al-Mu'ayad was dragged to Germany, and was arrested in January 2003 by the German authorities at the request of Washington, which accuses him of supporting al-Qaida organization led by Osama Bin Laden, and was handed over to the US two months ago.
