Bahrain, Local, 1/13/2004
Representatives of 40 workers trade unions, representing the private and public sector in Manama, held a conference that lasted for three days to discuss and approve a constitution and elect the leadership of the first workers trade union in Bahrain.
A source in the preliminary committee said that the constituent conference of the general federation of the Bahrain's workers trade union ended yesterday the elections of the conference's offices. The source noted that the representatives of the trade unions to the conference "will discuss the constituent and internal documents so as to approve them, and then elect a leadership for the Union." He added that there are two debated options to form the leadership of the union. The first is to be a general secretariat, and the second a central council for the federation. He said that choosing one of the two formulas will be decided by the representatives.
The source indicated that the conference which will continue until tomorrow will be wrapped up by electing a federation's leadership.
