Regional-Yemen, Politics, 1/13/2004
The Inter-Governmental Regional Conference on Democracy, Human Rights and the Role of the International Criminal Court concluded Monday its deliberations, with the participation of Arab and international delegations.
In the final statement, participants stressed the importance of freeing the region of the Middle East of weapons of mass destruction, denouncing the Israeli practices against the Palestinian people, and called for stopping building the Apartheid separation barrier in the West Bank, and the settlements which block the realization of just and comprehensive peace in the region.
It called on occupation forces in Iraq to enable Iraqis to practice their right to self determination, and to end the occupation there, asserting the important role of the United Nations in any decision regarding the future of Iraq.
The statement underlined that terrorism threaten democracy and human rights, calling for holding an international conference to reach an international agreement on combating terrorism, and distinguishing between terrorism and legitimate resistance approved by the international charters and conventions.
