Renewed Egyptian underlining of Syria 's cling to ME peace
Egypt-Syria, Politics, 1/12/2004

Political Advisor to the Egyptian President Osama al-Baz stressed Syria's interest and real desire to achieve just and comprehensive peace in the Mideast, based on the international resolutions and Land-for-Peace formula, asserting that her call to resume peace negotiations from the point it stopped proves this desire.

In a statement given to the Egyptian TV broadcasted overnight, Baz said "Peace will not be just and comprehensive without the Israeli complete withdrawal from all the occupied Arab lands to the line of June 4th 1967." He strongly criticized Israeli continuation of building the Apartheid separation wall, which aimed at creating a new reality in the occupied Palestinian lands, as well as hindering any serious move to find just solution to the Palestinian cause.

Regarding Iraq, he called on all the occupation troops to withdraw from the Iraqi lands, in order to enable the Iraqi people to run their affairs by themselves, and to control their own resources.

He also underscored the necessity for maintaining the Iraqi unity and sovereignty, asserting Egypt's rejection to the partitioning plans of Iraq.

On the Egyptian-Iranian relations, "both countries have important political weight in the region and the Islamic world that enable them to play an efficient role in achieving stability and security in the Middle East," al-Baz said.
