Moroccan, Algerian dialogue crucial to settle sahara conflict, Danish deputy
Morocco-Denmark, Politics, 1/10/2004
A Moroccan-Algerian dialogue is necessary to solve the Sahara conflict. The two countries "should at least agree on the existence of a disagreement," said here Thursday Danish deputy, Jens Hald Madsen, who is leading a Danish parliamentary delegation on a three day-visit to Morocco.
Madsen, who represents the Danish liberal party, told MAP following a meeting with Moroccan foreign minister, Mohammed Benaissa, "if parties (Morocco and Algeria) are unable to agree on one aspect of bilateral relations, they should at least probe issues of common interest on which they can reach an agreement."
"Such a dialogue and exchanges would create an entente that would help settle the Sahara question," he insisted.
Evoking his meeting with the Moroccan foreign minister, Madsen said he hopes the meeting will be the start of fruitful bilateral relations. He said talks with Benaissa focused on relations between Morocco and the European Union and means to foster them in addition to immigration and other regional and international questions.
