Syria's two messages to the UN on Israeli expansion policy in the Golan
Syria-Israel, Politics, 1/6/2004

Syria's Permanent Representative at the United Nations Faisal Mikdad sent two messages to the UN Secretary General and to Chili Permanent Representative, the Chairman of the Security Council for this month, on the Israeli provocative decision of establishing new settlements in the occupied Golan and financing the project.

"The Israeli provocative decision was made few weeks after the Syrian initiative to resume peace negotiation from the point where it stopped aiming at achieving just and comprehensive peace in the region, and after her initiative on behalf of the Arab countries regarding freeing the region of weapons of mass destruction (WMD)," the message included.

The message pointed out that the Israeli decision was made after the adoption of two resolutions by the UN General Assembly during its 58th session, which call on Israel to end its illegitimate occupation and to stop building the settlements.

Syria's message also underlined Israel's policies and its challenge to the principles of the international law, and to the relevant UN Security Council's resolutions which considered the Israeli decision to annex Golan as annulled, stressing that such Israeli decisions reveal the Israeli leaders' real goals, which contradict the realization of peace.

He pointed out that the Israeli decision to build new settlements in the occupied Golan which represents a violation of the international law, and its insistence on building the separation wall, are clear evidence of the Israeli aggressive policies that aim at extending occupation, and foiling all attempts to achieve peace in the region.

The message asserted that such expansion and colonial decisions don't weaken Syria's stances, but increase its determination on restoring all the occupied lands.

The message said "The Israelis must be aware that their involvement of their government will not bring them and the people of the region except more losses, tension and instability, calling them to be aware that the only way for ensuring peace and security is the Israeli withdrawal from the occupied Syrian Golan to the 4th line of June 1967 and from all the occupied Arab lands."

The massage appealed to the UN Secretary General to strongly condemn the Israeli policies, referring that Syria called on the member states at the UN which can influence Israel, to shoulder responsibility of maintaining international peace and security, through forcing Israel to abandon such dangerous decisions.
