Syria: Israeli settlements in Golan are against peace
Syria-Israel, Politics, 1/1/2004

A Syrian Press spokesman described the building of new Israeli settlements in the occupied Golan as part of Sharon government's anti-peace policy, the forcible Judaize the occupied lands, and turn occupation into a 'fait accompli' under a false cover of desire for peace.

The spokesman said that doubling the number of settlers, and the expansion of settlement in the Golan disclose real Israeli intentions in swallowing the occupied lands, in scorn of the UN resolutions, and the recent resolution by its General Assembly which considered Israeli annexation procedures as illegal.

The source added that peace contradicts with occupation, and with any steps to legalize the occupation, instead of trying to eliminate it according to the land-for-peace principle.

The source asserted that the Israeli new steps are considered a flagrant expression of antagonism to peace, and to any trend or initiative to push things towards establishing just and comprehensive peace in the region.
