Saudi Arabia: senior al-Qaida member surrenders

The Saudi Arabian official mass media announced that one of the main wanted extremist Islamists in Saudi Arabia surrendered to the police yesterday.

A statement by the ministry of the interior, quoted by the official media, said that Mansour Bin Muhammad Ahmad Faqih, who was on a list, that includes 2 wanted extremists suspected to have links to al-Qaida organization, surrendered to the authorities, and his family visited him later in the day, yesterday.

The surrender came just one day after the blowing up a small bomb in Riyadh, in a car stationed in front of a security officer house in an assassination attempt, according to security sources.

On December 6th, the Saudi ministry of the interior published a list including 26 suspects including 23 Saudis, two Moroccan and one Yemeni wanted for being involved in terrorist acts in recent months. On December 8th, the Saudi ministry of the interior said that one of the 26 suspected, who is the Saudi Ibrahim al-Rayes was killed in a clash with the security forces in Riyadh. The Saudi ministry of the interior called on the suspects to surrender and threatened "hard penalty " for those who support them.
