Moroccan court rejects bail for minor twins sentenced to five years on terrorism charges
Morocco, Local, 12/27/2003
The chamber of Minors at the Court of Appeal of Rabat, on Friday rejected bail for the 14 year-old twin sisters, Iman and Sanna Laghriss, sentenced last September to five years imprisonment on terrorism charges.
Meanwhile, the court postponed hearing in the case to January 14 to allow lawyers to prepare arguments.
The two girls are serving their sentence in a prison for minors after they were found guilty on charges of "conspiracy to prepare and perpetrate terrorism acts, raising funds to use them for terrorist acts, undermining sacred values, begging and holding unauthorized public meetings." The chamber had acquitted the friend of the two sisters, Hakima Rajlane, who was prosecuted in the same case.
Iman and Sanaa, sued under the anti-terrorism law enacted on May 28 after the terrorist attacks that killed 45 people in the Moroccan economic capital last May, were reportedly poised to carry out a suicide attack in a supermarket.
