The Turkish foreign minister Abdullah Gul renewed his country's warning to the Iraqi Kurds against any attempt to expand the self-rule area in northern Iraq.

The Turkish minister added "Should such grave developments continue, I fear that Iraq will be once again be converted to a center of pains and sufferings." A statement issued by the Turkish foreign ministry yesterday that " any future plans for the constitutional structure in Iraq will not result in a positive example, unless it honors the will of the Iraqi people as a whole." The statement added that "no body has the right to drag Iraq and the region into new adventures," without remarking directly to the Kurdish idea on confederation.
