Lukashenko criticizes US policy as belligerent; international security needs new system
Regional-Belarus, Politics, 12/27/2003

President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko criticized the U.S. policy towards other countries of the world, accusing Washington of aggressively declaring a right to use military power against nations who dare to adopt internal or foreign policy independent of the U.S. policy.

Lukashenko said that leaders of some nations seek persistently to dominate and put pressures on other countries, warning that international institutions are not able to fully guarantee sovereignty of nations. The Belarusian leader was speaking in Minsk with members of his country's National Security Council.

He added that Belarus is seeking to help build a new security system for Europe, by setting a sort of cooperation with the NATO, playing an active role in the Common Defence Treaty Organization, and building a defensive space with Russia.
