Hakim vows to end occupation, missile attacks continue in Baghdad

News reports said that at least three mortar shells fell near the headquarters of the American occupation leadership in the downtown of Baghdad. No reports were made immediately on the size of losses, but warning whistles and explosions were heard inside what is known as the green zone after a brief period from the attack.
Another attack for the Iraqi resistance targeted a camp for the American forces in Baqouba, 60 Km to the north of Baghdad.
An American army officer said that the attackers fired mortars at the camp, and wounded 8 American soldiers, 2 of them in critical conditions.
Earlier news reports said that more than 20 shells fell towards al-Doura area, to the south of Baghdad, and military copters were heard flying over all parts of Baghdad.
The Iraqi resistance had used missiles and mortars in new attacks against the occupation forces on Thursday morning. Almost ten mortar shells hit several objectives in the heart of the Iraqi capital.
Meantime, the rotating president of the Iraqi Interim Governing council, Abdul Aziz al-Hakim, said that among the pivotal objectives of the council is to end occupation, and start "a new Iraq."
In a solidarity celebration held with him in Baghdad, and attended by a large number of scholars, al-Hakim said that the new Iraq will be for all sects and minorities.
It was also announced in Baghdad, the formation of the Shoura council for the Sunni community, including all social strata of the Sunnis in Iraq. The constituent commission of the council held its first meeting in Um al-Qura mosque in Baghdad, in the presence of 70 representatives for various Sunni political and religious factions.
On the other hand, the delegation of the Arab League, currently visiting Iraq and led by the assistant of the AL secretary general, Ahmad Bin Hali, met with officials in al-Suleimaneyah government to the north of Iraq, led by Barham Saleh the prime minister of the district. The two sides discussed challenges taking place in the new Iraq. The AL delegation will be also visiting the Kurdish Halabja city today. The city was which exposed to chemical bombardment by the government of Saddam Hussein in 1989.
