Building Maghreb union requires courage, Moroccan fm
Morocco-Maghreb, Politics, 12/25/2003

Moroccan minister of foreign affairs and cooperation, Mohammed Benaissa, said building an active and dynamic Maghreb Union requires "courage" to remove difficulties.

In an interview published Wednesday by the Moroccan daily in Arabic "Assahra Al Maghribiya," Benaissa said "to reach an acting and dynamic Maghreb Union, for the benefit of all, courage, perspicacity and political will are required to build confidence and lower difficulties, by settling problems between us."

"No one will be able to resolve our problems for us, especially when it is about such an issue as the Sahara dispute, which is a Moroccan-Algerian one," he said.

Benaissa said it is the first time that "contribution to settling pending issues" is mentioned in the final communique of the UMA ministers council (December 21-22) which is, according to him, "an important hint that can only lead to "cohesion in positions."
